Venetian Plaster

Ancient Origins: Dating back nearly 10,000 years, lime plastering uses slaked lime derived from natural limestone. The Romans later added marble dust to make the plaster stronger, smoother and ideal for intricate decorative moulding.

The Renaissance Revival: The craft reached its iconic peak during the Italian Renaissance in Venice. Building on stilts over water made transporting and installing heavy solid marble slabs impractical. To achieve the luxurious look of marble without the weight, Venetian artisans combined lime plaster with fine marble dust (an early form of Marmorino) that could be applied directly onto masonry.

Modern Luxury: Today, Venetian Plaster remains a prized technique in luxury homes, hotels and contemporary design - celebrated for its timeless aesthetic, durability and artisanal finish.
